The 14 Peaks Expedition team is making steady progress on Annapurna I. Today, Victor Hugo Rimac Trejo from Peru and Chunqi Yan from China are moving to Camp III for further rotations, while the rest of the team has safely returned to Base Camp. Everyone is in good condition, recovering, and preparing for the next phase of the climb.
The team includes climbers from around the world. Eduard Kubatov from Kyrgyz Republic holds the record as the oldest person to climb Manaslu without supplementary oxygen, achieving this feat at the age of 50 in 2022. Mindaugas Satkauskas from Lithuania has summited Manaslu, Everest, and Lhotse, becoming the first Lithuanian to complete the Everest-Lhotse double-header within 24 hours. He is now on track to complete all 14 of the world’s 8000-meter peaks. Maria Kim from Russia is also part of the team. Chunqi Yan from China and Victor Hugo Rimac Trejo from Peru, a certified mountain guide with AGMP and UIAGM, are continuing their rotations to higher camps.
The climbers spent last night at Camp II under the guidance of experienced 14 Peaks Expedition guides Mingmar Sherpa and Pasang Nurbu Sherpa. The entire team remains in good health and spirits as they prepare for the next steps. Meanwhile, the rope-fixing team, led by Imagine Nepal, has made significant progress and is nearing the summit. However, Annapurna has developed numerous crevasses this year, making the climb more challenging and slowing the final push.
A light snowfall is expected on Friday, with temperatures dropping as low as -34°C. After Friday, the weather is expected to improve, with less wind in the coming days. The team is closely monitoring conditions to ensure a safe summit attempt.
Stay tuned for more updates from the slopes of Annapurna!
