Standing at 4,884 meters, the Carstensz Pyramid is the lowest of the Seven Summits and the tallest peak in Austral-Oceania. It’s important to keep in mind that this mountain is not as modest as it appears. The “Puncak Jaya” – “Victory Mountain” as it is called in the native language, is deemed the most challenging of all Seven Summits from a climbing point of view. It is situated on the second biggest island in the world, in the province of Papua, which is part of Indonesia, amidst green and dense jungle.

To reach the Base Camp on the overland route, a crossing of the rainforest is inevitable. Especially during heavy rain, you should not forget to bring your rubber boots and some extra endurance. Reaching the Base Camp does not mark the end of the toughest journey. There are still several hours of climbing, with some sections aided by fixed ropes, before the summit comes into view. Once at the summit, we will be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama, and if the weather cooperates, we might even see two oceans simultaneously.
