Annapurna is a spectacular series of peaks in the Himalayas, stretching across a 55 km long massif in north-central Nepal. Its highest point, Annapurna I (8,091m), proudly ranks as the 10th-highest mountain in the world and is one of the iconic 14 eight-thousanders. Despite its incredible beauty and prestige, Annapurna is widely regarded as one of the most technical and dangerous 8000m peaks. The steep terrain, avalanche-prone slopes, and historically high fatality rate make it a challenge only for the most skilled and determined mountaineers.
Although Annapurna I was the first 8,000-meter peak ever climbed (in 1950), it remains one of the least-attempted eight-thousanders due to its demanding nature. Its name, Annapurna, originates from Sanskrit — meaning “full of food,” symbolizing nourishment and abundance. In Hindu culture, Goddess Annapurna represents fertility, harvest, and the sustaining energy of life.
